Geography & community.

Santa Rita and Piti are community reference points around the Apra Harbor side of Guam, while Hagatna is a separate civilian center. Naval Base Guam and Andersen Air Force Base are different installations. The island's Chamorro heritage, tropical shoreline and varied limestone and volcanic terrain offer a distinctive regional identity. Build the household plan around the gaining organization instead of treating the entire island as one neighborhood.

This free regional guide supports a location comparison. Use the installation profiles below for each destination’s identity, public organizations, specific resources and reporting considerations.

Climate & seasonal considerations.

Guam's tropical setting includes heat, humidity, heavy rain and typhoon preparedness. Learn current local emergency guidance before arrival, including how official notices reach households. An island weather delay can affect lodging, onward travel and deliveries at the same time, so keep those arrangements separately confirmed.

Use current official weather and road information for the actual journey. A regional climate description or illustration describes the setting; it does not predict the conditions on the household’s arrival day.

Regional housing research

Work with official housing staff before committing to an off-base property or assuming an on-base home will be ready. Compare the intended work location with schools, care and the household's transportation plan on Guam. Keep temporary lodging confirmed separately, and ask the responsible office which approvals and documents apply to the family's own orders.

Schools & childcare

Ask the School Liaison and DoDEA about eligibility, enrollment and the records needed for the household's specific circumstances. Do not assume that moving to a U.S. territory resolves every school placement question. Request childcare separately and plan the gap between arrival, registration and the beginning of work while the permanent address is still being settled.

Healthcare & TRICARE

Coordinate overseas screening and continuing-care needs with the responsible medical offices and TRICARE before travel. Ask where routine care, specialist referrals and prescriptions will be handled on Guam for each family member. A confirmed flight or lodging reservation does not establish that all family travel authorization or medical coordination steps are complete.

Spouse employment & education

Use Fleet and Family Support and SECO to research a spouse's employment and education transition. An island move can change the practicality of remote work, working hours and childcare arrangements. Obtain the employer's approval for the actual location, and check the responsible territorial licensing authority for regulated professions rather than assuming mainland arrangements carry over unchanged.

Family support across the region

Use the sponsor and official installation relocation resources to sequence family-support, access and newcomer questions. Keep dependent travel, shipment and pet arrangements as distinct tasks with their responsible offices. Guam is a U.S. territory with its own arrival context; an OCONUS label alone does not determine every rule that applies to a particular household.

Attractions & community life

War in the Pacific National Historical Park offers public places to learn about Guam's history and coastal landscape. Consult the National Park Service for the specific unit and current access information before an outing. Respect the island's Chamorro heritage and cultural sites; a regional coastline illustration is neither a beach-safety assessment nor permission to enter military property.

Transportation & PCS arrival

An island arrival involves an airport-to-lodging arrangement before the household establishes its regular road routine. Compare the actual work site, school and care destinations while housing is being decided. Use current island weather and official arrival information, keeping public coastal recreation directions separate from controlled installation access and the gaining organization's reporting requirements.

OCONUS travel & household considerations.

An island itinerary makes flight arrangements, ground transport, temporary lodging and shipment delivery separate confirmations. Use the household’s orders and the destination’s official arrival guidance. A U.S. state or territory classified OCONUS should not be treated as though every foreign-country requirement applies.

If moving with pets, separate transport acceptance from destination entry requirements. USDA APHIS pet-travel resources ↗ identify official destination starting points; check the responsible destination authority and transport provider before making a commitment. For Guam, consult Guam Department of Agriculture animal-health resources ↗ for current destination requirements.
