Geography & community.

Fort Campbell straddles a state line, with Clarksville in Tennessee and Oak Grove and Hopkinsville in Kentucky serving different parts of the surrounding community. A Kentucky mailing address does not mean every household will live or work on the same side of that line. School enrollment, vehicle administration and professional licensing should follow the actual residence and applicable rules, not the installation's postal label.

This free regional guide supports a location comparison. Use the installation profiles below for each destination’s identity, public organizations, specific resources and reporting considerations.

Climate & seasonal considerations.

This inland border region experiences humid summers, winter cold and thunderstorms. Prepare for rain during unloading and for seasonal road changes during a winter arrival. Use local alerts for the county where you live as well as installation announcements; those are distinct information channels.

Use current official weather and road information for the actual journey. A regional climate description or illustration describes the setting; it does not predict the conditions on the household’s arrival day.

Regional housing research

Compare Clarksville, Tennessee, and Hopkinsville-area Kentucky addresses with the service member's actual duty location. State and local boundaries can affect a household's paperwork as well as its commute. Ask the housing office about current options, then review lease terms and utility responsibilities without assuming that being near Fort Campbell makes two addresses equivalent.

Schools & childcare

Attach each proposed home to the correct Tennessee or Kentucky school authority before making an enrollment decision. The School Liaison can help identify the appropriate contacts, while the school itself confirms requirements. For childcare, compare requested care with the work and pickup route; crossing the state line does not create an interchangeable school or care arrangement.

Healthcare & TRICARE

Identify the installation's official medical contacts through the relocation directory, then coordinate enrollment and referrals with TRICARE. Include any civilian care route in the housing comparison. Keep treatment summaries and medication information accessible while traveling, particularly when the household is deciding between communities on different sides of the Kentucky–Tennessee boundary.

Spouse employment & education

A spouse considering work in either Kentucky or Tennessee should check the location where the work is actually performed. Use employment assistance and SECO to organize the search, and ask the relevant licensing authority about regulated work. Keep a remote employer's location approval and a professional license question as separate decisions.

Family support across the region

Use Army Community Service and the sponsor to identify Fort Campbell newcomer and family-support contacts. Ask which reporting steps belong to the unit and which household questions can be handled before arrival. For a family split between temporary lodging and later permanent housing, record the contact responsible for each stage rather than repeating the same inquiry.

Attractions & community life

Land Between the Lakes is a regional recreation destination, distinct from Fort Campbell and its training areas. Consult the National Recreation Area's official visitor information before planning a trip. Choose an outing that fits the household's available time after arrival, and avoid treating a broad regional attraction as an immediately adjacent installation amenity.

Transportation & PCS arrival

Clarksville and Hopkinsville sit on different sides of the Kentucky–Tennessee context surrounding Fort Campbell. Compare the household's actual home, school, care and work destinations rather than treating the state line as a single neighborhood boundary. Keep regional recreation trips separate from the reporting itinerary and use official installation directions for the final approach.

A domestic move across local boundaries.

Connect the proposed address with the responsible school, utility providers and licensing authority. State and local boundaries can matter even when two homes appear close on a regional map. Use the receiving offices for requirements and the gaining organization for actual reporting instructions.

If moving with pets, separate transport acceptance from destination entry requirements. USDA APHIS pet-travel resources ↗ identify official destination starting points; check the responsible destination authority and transport provider before making a commitment.
